Inside Our Factory: The 9-Step Process of Manufacturing Custom Enamel Pins

Step 1: Artwork Review & Manufacturing Blueprint

Every successful pin project begins with precision prepress engineering. You can submit your vector files (AI, EPS, PDF) or initial design ideas, and our in-house artwork team will prepare a production proof.

• Factory Insight: Digital prints don't always translate 1:1 into stamped metal. If line spacing, metal ridge thickness, or recessed enamel cavities fall below manufacturing limits, our engineers fine-tune the design. We verify color codes using the Pantone Matching System (PMS) and confirm all artwork changes with you prior to mold carving.

Step 2: CNC Precision Mold Engraving

Once artwork is approved, the vector data is transferred to high-precision CNC engraving machines. Micro-cutters carve the detailed 3D design into a hardened steel master mold block, capturing intricate logos, fine typography, and sharp structural lines.

Step 3: Heavy-Duty Metal Stamping (or Zinc Die-Casting)

The engraved steel mold is mounted onto high-tonnage hydraulic or friction stamping presses.

• Precision Stamping: Best for 2D or standard 3D designs on brass, iron, or copper blanks. The intense mechanical pressure forcefully stamps the detailed impression onto the raw metal sheet.

• Zinc Alloy Die-Casting: Used for highly complex 3D contours, hollow-out shapes, or multi-layered badges, injecting molten metal directly into custom cavities.

Step 4: Contour Die-Cutting (Outline Punching)

After stamping, the metal sheet moves to a dedicated trimming press. Using a secondary steel cutting die custom-built to match the badge's silhouette, each pin is individually punched out from the excess metal sheet with crisp, clean borders.

Step 5: Attachment Welding & Backing Fitting

Functionality and durability go hand-in-hand. Skilled technicians silver-solder or spot-weld chosen attachments to the back of each badge:

• Standard Attachments: Spur nails with butterfly clutches, rubber caps, or flat safety pins.

• Premium Attachments: Strong neodymium magnets, tie tacks, cufflink posts, or deluxe flat-top clutches.

Step 6: Hand Polishing & Surface Deburring

Stamping and die-cutting leave minor burrs along the edges. Our experienced artisans hand-polish the front face, side profiles, and reverse plates using specialized buffing wheels. This removes all rough spots, ensuring a silky-smooth surface ready for electroplating.

Step 7: Multi-Stage Chemical Electroplating

Polished raw metal badges enter our eco-compliant electroplating line. Through electrolytic deposition, pins receive durable decorative metallic finishes:

• Classic Metallic: Gold, Silver, Bright Nickel, and Polished Copper.

• Specialty & Vintage: Antique Gold, Antique Bronze, Antique Silver, Matte Black Nickel, or Dual-Tone Plating.

Step 8: Automated Precision Coloring (Enamel Dispensing)

The plated pin bases are placed onto precision jigs under our automated color dispensing machines. Guided by optical tracking software, liquid enamel paint is micro-injected into each recessed metal cavity with extreme accuracy, ensuring vibrant color saturation, sharp separation, and zero overflow across high-volume production batches.

Step 9: 100% Quality Inspection, Custom Packaging & Global Shipping

Every single pin undergoes manual quality control under bright magnification:

• QC Checks: Surface scratch inspection, enamel levelling, plating adhesion, and attachment pull-strength testing.

• Packaging: Inspected pins are mounted onto custom backing cards, sealed in polybags, or set into velvet presentation boxes according to client specifications.

• Delivery: Securely packed bulk cartons are dispatched via DHL, FedEx, UPS, air freight, or sea shipping.
